about

All Will Be Well Records are proud to announce the release of Girls and Film, the debut album from Oxford’s outstanding Pyschedelic Geek-Pop musician, Moogieman.

This concept album is based around the theme of analogue photography and features 24 tracks, including the standout tunes ‘Disposable’, ‘Pinhole’, I Left My Camera On The Moon’ and ‘Provia’.

The album is a unique take on the medium of photography but is also full of relevant modern-day subtext. For instance, Diana is a fairly straightforward love song to the Diana Mini camera. Holga Jen is about a Flickr personality known for her brilliant moody, gothic long exposures with the Holga camera. Disposable (about disposable cameras) is a kind of anthem for DIY culture. And the poignant I Left My Camera On The Moon is sung from the point of view of Apollo 17 Commander, Eugene Cernan, who left his camera behind on the lunar surface (as planned), hoping it would be retrieved by a later mission – which never came.

The album was mainly recorded and produced by the artist with backing vocals from Claire LeMaster (of A Reluctant Arrow), a sax solo by Clare Heaviside (of the Balkan Wanderers) and trumpet parts by Katy Bryer. Producer Stefano Maio of All Will Be Well records has also been involved in the making of this unique and outstanding record.

Track Name: Pinhole
When the world is in darkness
Then I gain a second sight
And I turn to the needle
To admit a little light.
Gotta break out of the night.

With my pinhole ...

With my little pinhole
I see time set out in space.
It’s a window to the soul
Of a history-free place.

The people fade and disappear.
Night and day become as one.
The seasons cut down to a smear
Behind the movement of the sun.

With my pinhole ...
Track Name: Provia
Wake up,
I pull out bits of broken teeth.
There’s a picture of me smiling
And kissing a girl
But she’s no longer here.

Stand on the bridge
And look at the railway station.
There’s a frame in Fuji Provia
Of the old grain silo
And it’s no longer there.

There’s parallel worlds, there’s parallel times.
It’s in my eyes and it’s in my mind.
The one out there is not the only one.
The one out there is not the only one.
The one out there is not the only one.
It all looks different in C41.
Track Name: I Left My Camera On The Moon
Study myself in the glass,
Reflecting on my distant past.
The pits and craters on my face
Remind me of my trip to space.

I think we had a real blast
But the past stays firmly in the past.
No self-portraits anymore.
Nothing to remember what I saw.

I left my camera on the moon.
Didn’t know we were going home so soon.
Thought we’d be back before we knew,
But that was 1972.

Looked down at the sky.
Then the moon hit my eyes.
And I saw we’d arrived
And it was so cold and so beautiful.

Took a few snapshots of my feet.
It’s a cliché but the background was really neat.
And I can’t help be a little sad.
It’s the only Hasselblad I ever had.

I left my camera on the moon.
Didn’t know we were going home so soon.
Thought we’d be back before we knew,
But that was 1972.
Track Name: Agfa Clack
I once met a drunken debutante
With a voice like Joan Greenwood.
She said she was a descendant
Of Ignatius Loyola.
I shot her once.
I shot her twice.
Snap snap snap went my Agfa Clack.

And when a coked-up football hooligan
Took exception to my evening dress,
I told him that a gentleman
Should never wear brown in London.
I shot him once
I shot him twice
Snap snap snap went my Agfa Clack

Kool aid escapades
With Yé-yé girls and Yé-yé boys.
Hanging out in the souks
With the Bashi Bazouks.
It’s a colourful life.
It’s a colourful lie.

And when I was a rough rider
Going bareback in the woods.
I invented the Cuba Libre
Siphoned from a radiator.
I took one shot.
I took two shots.
Snap snap snap went my Agfa Clack.

Widescreen life,
Widescreen lies.
I like to put it under the knife.
Life’s little regrets
With a little vignette.
It’s a colourful life.
It’s a colourful lie.
